How the Longevity 100 is scored
Every person was scored 0–10 on five criteria, weighted to a final score out of 100. The weights are editorial judgements, weighted in rough proportion to what shapes investment outcomes in the field.
- Capital Power — 25%. Money deployed, raised or directly controlled in longevity-relevant deals. Capital gates everything else, which is why it sits at the top.
- Scientific Credibility — 20%. Peer-reviewed output, institutional standing, replication record and recognition by other scientists. Citation counts and h-index inform the score but do not entirely determine it.
- Strategic Influence — 20%. Board seats, convening power and the ability to set category direction — what separates the people who shape what the field works on from those who work in it.
- Original Impact — 20%. Whether someone created a mechanism, a company, a trial template or an investment strategy that others now copy.
- Public Profile — 15%. Reach and platform, weighted lowest deliberately. This is an influence list, not a popularity contest.
The Longevity 100 by the numbers
By category, the 100 splits into 38 scientists, 33 founders and CEOs, 26 investors and 3 influencers — public profile is weighted lowest by design. By geography it is concentrated in North America (73), followed by Europe (17), Asia (7) and the Middle East (3). The centre of gravity remains in North America, but the 2026 landscape is broadening: Europe now accounts for roughly one in six entries, and Asia and the Middle East together represent ten percent.
What the field said about the Longevity 100
The ranking was analysed by figures inside the industry, including two who appear on the list themselves.
Alex Zhavoronkov set it against a rival methodology
Alex Zhavoronkov, CEO of Insilico Medicine and No. 11 on this list, published an analysis of the Longevity 100 on his Forever.AI newsletter in May 2026. He set the ranking against an alternative approach — a Multi-Model Consensus Index published by AgingBio.com, which asks six AI language models to independently rank longevity scientists. That method produces materially different results: it elevates basic scientists, David Sinclair in particular, and downranks capital allocators.
The gap between the two is a genuine methodological argument rather than an error in either. Weight capital at 25% and you get a map of who decides what gets funded. Weight scientific contribution and you get a map of who produced the knowledge being funded. Zhavoronkov’s conclusion — that the two rankings are complementary, one measuring institutional power and the other scientific contribution — is the right reading, and it is worth stating plainly here rather than defending a single number as definitive.
