Dr Layne Norton: Being obese may not be your fault, but it’s down to you to fix it

The nutritional researcher and world champion powerlifter has never shied away from speaking out, even on a topic as divisive as where responsibility lies for causing and fixing the obesity crisis. And he’s adamant that once you accept his diagnosis - even if you don’t like it - you can take back control of your health, your happiness and your future

“It may not be your fault, but it is your responsibility”

That there’s a growing obesity epidemic across large parts of the world is not up for debate. The numbers don’t lie.

But the argument over who is responsible for the problem and – more critically – who is responsible for finding the solution, is a highly-charged and deeply-sensitive topic with few high-profile people prepared to put their head above the parapet for fear of a public backlash.

Dr Layne Norton has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, even when he knows a lot of people won’t like what he has to say.

That’s because he believes when the stakes are this high, and the potential impact of inaction has dire consequences not just for an individual, but society at large, the worst thing you can do is keep your mouth shut. And he’s not about to change the habits of a lifetime.

Are individuals responsible for addressing their own obesity?
